📋What Goes in These Brownies
🔪 Equipment
The most important thing you’ll need is a package of the tombstones toppers and a bag of candy pumpkins.
This set of baking dishes has both rectangular and square baking dishes I use for dessert and it’s on sale.
This set of utensils has everything you need for a well equipped kitchen and is priced right! I love this dusting wand for when I want to add a dusting of powdered sugar.
Variations
- You can leave the tombstones off the Brownie Bites for a friendlier treat.
- These Halloween brownie bites can be made in mini muffin pans, too.
- Add cream cheese for a richer flavor. Beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer first and them swirl it into the mix to take this easy Halloween dessert up a notch!
- Add nuts for a little crunch.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, add a 1/4 cup of melted chocolate to the batter or add a 1/4 cup of dark chocolate chips. White chocolate would add a delicious twist, too.
- An inexpensive addition would be to simply paint a Jack-o’-Lantern face on large marshmallows and use them to top the brownies. Candy corn could be used as well.
- Frost the brownies with chocolate frosting before cutting for an extra sweet treat.
- If you do frost the brownies, why not top them with chocolate sprinkles or these Halloween sprinkles with candy eyeballs?
👩🏻🍳 How to Make Them
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a square baking pan with nonstick spray or line with parchment paper.
Step 2: Pour melted butter into a large mixing bowl.
Step 3: Stir in the sugar and cocoa.
Step 4: Add the vanilla and eggs and stir well.
Step 5: In a separate bowl, measure out the flour. Many people scoop flour right out of the bag with a measuring cup, but you can end up with more flour than you need making a dry brownie or cake.
Instead, scoop the flour into the measuring cup with a spoon. Level the cup with a knife.
Step 6: Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together.
Step 7: Add the flour mixture to the other ingredients and stir well.
Step 8: Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Step 9: Allow brownies to come to room temperature on a cooling rack before cutting into 24 bars.
How to Decorate These Treats
Making the Icing
Step 1: You will need eggs, powdered sugar, cream of tartar, and green gel food coloring to ice the brownie bites.
Step 2: Combine all ingredients except food coloring in a mixing bowl, mixing on medium speed for 4 minutes.
Step 3: If icing is not stiff enough add powdered sugar until it is thick. (up to about 1/4 cup)
Step 4: Spoon the icing into a bowl.
Step 5: Add several drops of green gel food coloring in the large bowl of icing and stir well to mix the color.
Decorating the Brownie
You’ll need candy pumpkins and Tombstones for decorating your Halloween Brownie Bites.
Note: The Peeps tombstones have been discontinued, so these are a little different.
Step 1: Using the green icing cover a corner of the brownie to look like grass.
Step 2: Place a tombstone in the center of the back of top of the brownie.
Step 3: Add a candy pumpkin on the plot of icing grass.
Top Tips
When cutting these Halloween Brownie Bites, a plastic knife often works best as the brownies don’t stick as much to the plastic.
Of course! Homemade brownies are always a little better but sometimes I need something easier, too!
Keep these in an airtight container for 3-4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
You could add nuts, caramel, or even Rice Krispies to give them a little crunch. Get creative and let me know what you try!
