Fig Appetizer with Blue Brie Cheese

This Fig Appetizer with Blue Brie Cheese is easy to make and so full of flavor! In fact, the only cooking you’ll do is toasting the pecans! We’re always looking for simple recipes that are easy to pull together.

Figs and blue cheese are a perfect pairing, and when you combine them with pecans, fresh thyme, and honey, it’s such a delicious treat!

What You Need to Make Them

You can make this impressive appetizer with just four ingredients.

Fresh figs – this luscious fruit has a natural sweetness that pairs so well with cheese. The two varieties of figs we get are Brown Turkey and Black Mission figs.

Blue Brie cheese – we love the combination of the blue and the brie. This creamy cheese goes so well with the figs.

Pecans – bringing little crunch to this fig appetizer.

How To Make Them

Gently wash the figs and dry. Cut off both ends of each fig and cut in half.

Figs, honey, cheese, nuts. salt and pepper.

Lightly toast pecans in a warm pan over low heat until just golden.

In a small bowl, gently stir the cheese with salt and pepper. Don’t over stir.

Place pieces of cheese on each fig. The cheese should not completely cover the fig half. Shape it down the middle so you can see the pretty color of the outside edges of the fig.

Press fig and cheese lightly into bowl of chopped pecans.

Add a glistening drizzle of honey.

Optional: Sprinkle fresh thyme over this delicious fig appetizer. You could also serve this with fresh baguette slices.

Top Tips

Fresh figs are very delicate and don’t last long after purchasing, so you’ll want to use them within a couple of days.

If you have a fig that won’t sit up nicely when serving, slice just a tiny bit of the bottom off to make it flat.

What other cheese could I use with this fresh fig appetizer?

If you don’t care for blue brie, perhaps plain brie would have a flavor more to your liking. Soft goat cheese also goes well with fresh figs.

How else can you use fresh figs?

Fresh figs are wonderful on their own, in salads, in desserts like pie, or wrapped in prosciutto. You can even add fig slices to a pizza with goat cheese, a little olive oil, rosemary, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar glaze. We also like fig preserves.

What time of year can I buy fresh figs?

Fig season is usually only 6 or 7 months, so get them while you can. You can usually find them in early summer through early fall.

How long do fresh figs last.

Fresh figs are very perishable. I’d recommend eating them in the first 2-3 days of buying them. You don’t know how long they were in transit or on the grocery store shelves, so eat up, and don’t leave them out at room temperature.

  2. I can personally vouch for how utterly delicious this recipe is. Some might even say “divine.” The hard part is finding the fresh figs! (My grandmother use to grow them in her back yard in Florida ~ and fabulous mangoes too.)

    If you are lucky enough to find fresh figs ~ grab them (I mean after you pay for them.) For a change of pace (and I would say equally or almost equally delicious) we often make a variation that could not be faster or easier:

    FIGS with GOAT CHEESE
    Just cut the figs in half (wash and dry first) and put an artistic spoonful (or “chunk”) of goat cheese on top each half. That’s it! These tend to disappear very quickly when served as appetizers or hors d’oeurves with drinks. Thanks.
