It’s said that the original cocktail recipe for classic daiquiri was created in 1898 at the El Cobre copper mines in Cuba. At that time, it was only white rum, lemons, sugar, and ice. Of course, the recipe has been tweaked many times since then. Today, it is thought the traditional daiquiri recipe was first printed in the Gentleman’s Companion (1939), written by travel and food writer Charles H. Baker, using only simple ingredients of white rum, lime juice, and sugar, similar to our frozen daiquiri.
Daiquiri purists will refer to Baker’s recipe when making any other version. So now you know. And we’re not that far off, using fruit, fruit juice, and light rum. We think Charles H. Baker would approve.

What Goes In this Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri
This delicious cocktail is super easy to make with fruit, fruit juice, and rum. Garnish with fresh fruit. We’ve used a strawberry and lime wheel, but a slice of mango would be delicious.
- Frozen mango and strawberries: the base of our cocktail.
- Orange juice: adds a burst of citrus flavor
- Lime juice: balances out the sweetness by adding a touch of tartness.
- Rum: we used Bacardi rum
- Fresh strawberries and a slice of lime: for the optional garnish
How to Make It
Step 1: Add frozen mango to the blender.
Add half a cup of orange juice, the juice of one lime, and 2 oz. rum and blend for about a minute until you get a creamy, smooth, slushy texture.
This is our orange layer.
Pour into a plastic cup and move to the freezer to keep cold while you create the pretty pink layer. Rinse blender.
Step 2: Add the frozen strawberries and half a cup of orange juice to the blender.
Add the fresh lime juice and 2 oz. of rum to the blender.
Blend until smooth, about a minute.
Step 3: Alternate the strawberry and mango mixtures, pouring them into your favorite cocktail glass layer by layer. Our drink has two layers of each.
Step 4: Garnish with fresh strawberries and lime wedge or wheel. This gives our Bacardi Strawberry Daiquiri recipe a pop of color and adds to the pretty presentation.

Substitutions and Additions
Fresh fruit works for this cocktail, too, but you’ll want to wash and freeze it for a bit before making the cocktail.
As this drink has no added sugar, some people might like a sweeter drink. Simply add a little simple syrup or agave to each layer before blending.
Try adding a banana for more creaminess. Bananas pair well with both strawberries and mango.
Like spicey? Add a pinch of cayenne to give our Strawberry Mango Daiquiri a little warmth.
Want to make a non-alcoholic version for kids and friends who don’t drink? Just add a half cup of orange juice to each layer and omit the alcohol.
Garnish with a wedge of mango for extra flavor!
FAQ
You sure can! You can use any liquor you prefer. Vodka is a good choice if you don’t want to taste the liquor, but you could use tequila, gin, or your favorite.
You can leave out the strawberries and still get the pretty layered presentation. Just double the mango mixture, adding a couple of drops of grenadine to half of it until you have your desired color. Layer as instructed. You could also use frozen cherries for the red layer.

Top Tips
Have everything ready before you start, making sure you have all your ingredients.
If you can use crushed ice, it blends better than cubed.
If the frozen fruit slush is too thick, add orange juice a little bit at a time until it’s easily pourable.
Make sure to keep the frozen mixture cold while making the second layer.
