Olympic Rings Cocktail

This cocktail has the colors of the Olympic Rings. First created by Pierre de Coubertin in 1913, the Olympic Rings are a symbol of the Olympic Movement, and the visual ambassador for the Olympics worldwide.

Do you have favorite athletes you’ll be rooting for? As a passionate traveler, I just love that the Olympic games brings the world together. In a 2020 speech regarding the Tokyo Olympics, Thomas Brach, President of the International Olympic Committee, had this to say:

If sport can play a role in society today, it is precisely in strengthening the areas of cooperation for peace between nations.

Thomas Brach, President IOC

Let’s cheer on all the athletes this year. Of course, we’ll be cheering for our United States participants, but every one of the athletes has dedicated a huge period of their lives to get where they are today. Let’s toast all the Summer Olympic Games athletes. Try our French 75, French Sidecar Cocktail, Silver Fizz Cocktail, and World Record Cocktail to get in the mood to celebrate Paris!

What You Need to Make the Olympic Rings Cocktail

It’s best to have all ingredients well chilled before making this simple cocktail. No cocktail shaker needed.

  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • 1 ounce dry gin

Tips and Variations

Make sure to use a chilled cocktail glass to give the drink better flavor. You could also use a champagne flute. Tilt it to the side when pouring in ingredients.

Pouring each ingredient slowly and using the spoon technique is crucial to achieving distinct color layers in the cocktail. Take your time and pour each ingredient carefully to create the desired effect.

Use a steady hand to pour the ingredients over the back of a spoon to control the flow and prevent the layers from mixing. The thickness and density of the ingredients may vary, which can affect the layering. Adjust the pouring speed accordingly to achieve the best results.

Experiment with other liqueurs. It may take several tries to find other flavors that work as the density affects how the layers float. Try Creme de Menthe or Chartreuse for the green. Danziger Goldwasser Liqueur has sparkling gold flecks which would be perfect for the gold, and Pinaq Blue would be pretty for the blue.

Feel free to add your favorite garnish, but be careful to not disrupt the layers. You might want to use garnish picks you can lay across the glass. Ideas for garnishes might be an orange twist, cherry, or lemon twist.

We always have food on hand when serving cocktails. Why not whip a big batch of BBQ Chicken Quesadillas? They are filling and delicious, and you can have them ready to go into the oven ahead of time. Cut them into smaller slices for appetizers.

A Brie Charcuterie Board is always popular, and what’s more French than Brie and baguettes? You could also make this one pan meatball casserole and let guests help themselves. It’s super easy to make, and you can always double the batch and freeze leftovers.

To make your watch party more festive, order decorations with Olympic themes. Planning to have kids at your gathering? Check out these Olympic party ideas for kids to get them in the Olympic spirit, too.
