Substitutions and Variations

Instead of fresh apple cider, you can swap it with pear or apple juice.

Swap the bourbon with a flavored whiskey or spiced rum for a flavor twist to the cocktail.

You can use lemon-lime soda or club soda in place of the ginger ale in the recipe.

If you want a bit of a zesty bite, add ginger beer to the cocktail.

Add simple syrup to adjust the sweetness if you want this cocktail to be sweeter. Maple syrup or honey can also be added. It will also add layers of flavor to the drink.

Add an ounce of cranberry juice, along with the apple cider, for a cran-apple drink.

Fresh lemon juice or orange juice can be added for a bit of a citrus twist. Garnish with a lemon or orange peel.

Top Tips

Make sure the liquid ingredients are ice cold before making the cocktail. This way, the drink won’t get too watered down in the shaker.

I recommend not making the drink until you are ready to serve.

This is a recipe that can be adjusted to fit your preference. Less bourbon will make it a little less boozy and a bit sweeter. More bourbon gives it a stronger flavor.

I recommend stirring gently and not harshly, as it can deflate the ginger ale bubbles.

You can use any bourbon for this recipe, though the quality of the bourbon will affect the flavor. So make sure to use a bourbon you enjoy.
