Chicken wings hold onto this sauce really well, delivering a burst of delicious flavor with every bite. The cola gives this recipe a little sweetness and creates a stickiness that will make you think about licking your fingers. We won’t tell.

WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN? Absolutely.

Life gets so busy and the last thing I want to fuss with at the end of the day is a complicated recipe. With prep time of just five minutes and 15 minutes in the oven, dinner can be on the table in 20 minutes flat. This will be one of your favorite recipes for a quick and easy dinner.

Ingredients

Simple ingredients create the best meals. Easy recipes really can end up being family favorites!

  • 1 1/2 pounds chicken – we used wings and drums
  • 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 can cola regular (not diet)

Substitutions and Additions

Our Coca Cola chicken recipe has an Asian flair, but you could easily switch up the spices. Next time, add Italian seasoning, onion powder, and garlic for Italian flavor. You could also replace the ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce with jalapenos, a squeeze of lime juice, chili powder and cumin to make a Mexican chicken dish.

Add extra sweetness to this chicken by adding a little brown sugar. Prefer a little spice? Add chili flakes or hot sauce. Be careful that you don’t increase the heat level too much, especially for kids. Experiment to see what flavors you like best.

The spices aren’t the only thing you can switch up to give this dish different flavors. Try Dr. Pepper instead of a can of cola. Many people swear by diet colas, though I haven’t tried it.

This delicious sauce works equally as well on skinless chicken breasts, drumsticks, or skinless chicken thighs, and makes a great easy grilled chicken recipe, too. Pork chops are also so good cooked this way.

What to Serve with These Wings

Coca-Cola wings pair well with side dishes of sugar snap peas or snow peas and white sticky rice. A baked potato would make a good side, too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this cola chicken in the air fryer?

You can! The wings should cook in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes on each side. This will create a more cripsy chicken than the saucy dish we’re making on the stove.

How long do these wings keep?

These wings will keep for about 5 days stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Can I freeze the leftover wings?

You can! Allow them to cool down before placing them in an airtight container to freeze.

Top Tips for Making Cola Chicken

Always bring the chicken to room temperature before cooking. It’s easier to measure cooking time when you’re not starting with cold chicken.

Anytime you’re making chicken with a glaze or coating, make sure the chicken is dry by using a paper towel to absorb any moisture.

If you’d rather not cook the wings on the stove, feel free to oven bake them at 400º for about 45-50 minutes, turning halfway.
