🖤 Why We Love This Recipe

Like most jello shots, these are quick and easy to make. By using disposable plastic shot cups, there’s little cleanup, too.

What makes these even more adorable is an actual caramel on top. Think of it as an added sweet treat.

The recipe does need four hours or more of chill time to set. But the great thing is the actual prep time is minimal, so you won’t be stuck in the kitchen all day.

🛒 What Goes Into This Recipe

Vodka, green jello, caramel sauce, and shot cups on a marble table.

1. Green apple jello. You can’t have a jello shot without jello! These jello shots get their fun color and flavor by using a green apple jello mix.

2. Caramel vodka. The boozy goodness in these treats comes from caramel vodka. The sweet of the caramel vodka sets off the tart of the green apple jello perfectly.

3. Even MORE caramel! Is there such a thing as too much caramel? Not for these treats! Each jello shot will have a small layer of caramel sauce on top, and then a garnish with a small caramel candy.

📖 Variations

The green apple flavor with caramel is so good, but you can do so much with this recipe to switch it up. Try one of these variations at your next party!

Green Apple Cinnamon. Looking for a sweet and spicy twist? Swap out the caramel vodka for Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. It’s a great addition if you want a unique flavor combination.

Caramel Apple Cider Shots. Instead of using green apple jello, use unflavored gelatin powder and apple cider according to package directions. Then top with caramel once set.

Apple Pie A La Mode Shots. Swap out the caramel vodka for whipped cream or vanilla vodka. Top with whipped cream before serving and just drizzle some caramel on top. For even more apple pie taste, sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs.

Crown Apple Jell-o Shots. Instead of caramel vodka, substitute Crown Royal Apple Whisky for a royally good treat! Perfect for Fall parties!

Black Magic Jello Shots. Want a spooky fun twist for Halloween? Add a few drops of black food coloring into the jello mix while it is warm. Top with whipped cream before serving to look like a steaming witch’s brew. It’ll be a hit at your next Halloween party.

Kid-friendly version. Like any jello shot recipe, if you substitute a cup of water or apple juice for the alcohol, it sets just like regular jello. This makes it a family friendly version for all ages.

Have fun with garnishes. If you’ve got the extra time, you can certainly up your game with fresh apples to go on top. Simply slice them thin and put an apple slice on top of the caramel sauce. Granny smith apples with their tart flavor work best!

We also like apple chips as a topping on whipped cream. Sprinkle a little lemon juice on real apples if you use them, so they don’t turn brown.

You can even order festive plastic shot glasses that have a little pizazz!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this caramel apple jello shots recipe vegan?

Most flavored, packaged jello uses gelatin, which is not vegan friendly. But you can use something like agar agar and sour apple pucker schnapps for a vegan substitute.

Can you put jello shots in the freezer to set them faster?

Putting jello shots in the freezer won’t cause them to set any faster than in the fridge. Even worse, the texture of the jello shots could become less pleasant. Just stick with the fridge.

How long will jello shots last in the fridge?

Although you’re sure to want to enjoy them as soon as they’re ready, jello shots can last 3-4 days in the fridge.
