I hope you were following along when I was at Walt Disney World last month for the Monkey Kingdom Event. While there, I was invited to see a sneak peek of Tomorrowland. I wish I could have seen the whole film! It looks even better than I thought!
I’ve been sharing bits and pieces about the film, but here’s a quick synopsis from Disney: Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank, jaded by disillusionment, and Casey, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.
And of course the film stars George Clooney as that boy genius, who I understand from friends was a total blast to interview! Also starring in Tomorrowland is Britt Robertson, who plays Casey. I’ve mentioned I loved her in Delivery Man. She’s a fabulous actress, and really shines in this movie. The film also stars Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson.
What’s really cool about this film is that Walt Disney’s love for the future is what inspired not only Tomorrowland at the Disney parks, but also the movie. Disney had big dreams when he was planning the Tomorrowland portion of Disneyland and Disney World. This is a model from the Walt Disney Family Museum.
Seeing the Carousel of Progress shines a light on Walt’s fascination with tomorrow. If only he could still be here to see his vision played out. In fact, though Tomorrowland opened in 1955, it was rebuilt in 1967 with several new attractions, including the Carousel of Progress. Unfortunately, Walt Disney died in 1966, almost 7 months before the new park would open.
The latest Disney film, Tomorrowland, gives viewers a glimpse into what our future may hold. Those who saw Tomorrowland at the Disney Parks probably thought microwave ovens and remote controls were crazy. I’m betting most people today think we will see flying cars in the near future. Technology is moving at breakneck speed. These are truly exciting times!

Tomorrowland, rated PG13, is in theaters now and is a wonderful movie for the whole family to see together!
