I went to Macy’s in Fort Myers, Florida, yesterday to see the real Santa. Yes, it was a bit of a drive, but it was worth it. In case you didn’t know, many department store and mall Santas are really just Santa’s helpers. I know, they look like Santa, but the real Santa is busy all month with Macy’s, with a little last minute toy making in his spare time.
Once the kids were settled, Santa and his elves had a chat with them about his journey, and about Virginia, the little girl who, way back in 1897, asked whether the real Santa Clause truly existed. You know the rest of the story,
The reading took a bit longer as Santa got carried away at one point and couldn’t stop laughing, which meant the crowd couldn’t stop laughing either! You’ve heard the line about his belly, “it shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly.” Well, when Santa starts laughing, there is no stopping him! His elves finally helped him gain his composure. After all, he had a lot of children to meet!
Part of the magic of Santa is that, while I watched him spend time with each child (and a few adults,) the time flew by! How does he do that? I guess that’s how he delivers all those presents on Christmas Eve!
While guests were visiting they enjoyed hot cocoa and the most wonderful little cupcakes from Perfectly Scrumptious.
By the way, they saved me a cupcake and the name is…perfect!
An amazing time was had by all at Macy’s, but it was time for Santa to get back to the North Pole!
By the way, it’s not too late for your children to write a letter to Santa! Just go to Macy’s A Million Reasons to Believe page and they can get started right away!
Children who visited Santa at one of the Macy’s events were able to drop their letters in the Macy’s Santa Mail box, and Macy’s is donating $1 to the Make A Wish Foundation for each letter received up to $1,000,000! Visit makeawish.org to discover how you can share the power of a wish!
