Ingredients You’ll Need

To make sugar cookie dough, you’ll need simple ingredients like all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and butter. Some recipes also add eggs.

Variations

Sugar cookies are so versatile because you can add vanilla extract, almond extract, or a number of other flavors to give them a unique taste. Royal icing makes beautifully decorated Christmas sugar cookies in all those pretty Christmas icing colors.

Equipment

To make any of the festive sugar cookies on this list, you will need at least one cookie sheet to bake cookies. For making the dough, you’ll need a mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, and an electric mixer.

For cut-out cookies, you will need a rolling pin and cookie cutters in various shapes. This set comes with a booklet and has a great variety of Christmas cookie shapes like candy canes and Christmas trees.

You will also need wire racks for cooling the cookies and a piping bag with tips to decorate them. I keep my cookie cutters and bags in a plastic bin so they are all together when I need them.
