In celebration of the all new MSN experience, I was asked to share a time when my life, blog, or career was reimagined. I didn't have to think very hard about that, and hope you enjoy reading about how all three aspects of my life were changed through the creation of this site. When I was in college studying business, my favorite subjects were always the writing classes. Though I knew at that time I wanted to be a stockbroker, I just loved writing. I did try to combine my writing with my career by penning a monthly newsletter about tax-free investments (my specialty.) I enjoyed the creativity of putting the newsletter together, and seeing my clients share it with others.
Fast forward 10 years, and I was a stay at home mom. I no longer had the hunger to build a business. All I wanted was to spend time with my little girl. One day I was reading a parenting magazine, and remembered how much I loved writing. That day, I pitched that magazine and got an assignment. It was fun to be using those creative juices again. Before long, I had another little one on the way, and my writing again got pushed to the back burner.
My kids are now teens. Though I've had spurts of writing and submitting queries,I hadn't focused on persuing a writing career in years. Last year, I decided to spend more time focusing on it. I wrote a few queries, and was published again in a parenting magazine. One of the editors asked me if I had a blog. I had heard the term, of course, but had not considered starting one. As my girls are educated virtually, I thought it would be fun to write about our adventures in online education. From that, Virtual School Resources was born. I enjoyed sharing ideas with other families, and received great feedback and many thanks from people who had learned about different aspects of educating their children online.
One day I got an email from an education company asking me to review a product. I was ecstatic! Before long,I was reviewing products on a regular basis, and finding that some of those products were not a great fit for an educational site. From that experience, Virtually Yours was created.
Now I am able to indulge in my favorite pastime, writing, and I'm also able to contribute to my family's income. I had no idea blogging could be a business. I've also made a group of friends that I would not have met any other way. Check out my Friday Favorites to meet a few of them!
From stockbroker to blogger, that is my life reimagined. I am definitely enjoying the ride, and I'm so glad you are on this journey with me by taking the time to read Virtually Yours. I hope you'll subscribe if you haven't already.
