Stunning views. Ocean-front dining. Massage therapies and treatments. Sparkling ocean-front pools. Sound like paradise? Your next vacation could be there, and it’s right here in the US! The King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island in Georgia is the newest member of the Southern Living Hotel Collection.
Though this fabulous resort has only recently been awarded that distinction, there is a lot of history here. In fact, The King and Prince opened as a dance club in 1935. Six years later, the main hotel building opened to the public. The hotel served as a coast- watching and training facility during World War II. Extensive renovations took place in 1972 and again in 1983. The hotel became a member of the Historic Hotels of America in 1996.
With this year being the 80th anniversary of this beautiful resort, I’ve been invited to experience The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort so I can show you first hand what a wonderful destination it can be for a couples getaway, a family vacation, or even a golf getaway for a group! The resort also hosts weddings and is a perfect conference venue. Check out all the tools available for planning meetings in their Meeting Planner Toolkit.
I’ll be enjoying the facilities along with a small group of journalists and bloggers, and I can’t wait to share not only the resort, but also all there is to do and see on St. Simons Island.
I’ll be touring the Island by trolley as well as soaring above in a private air experience aboard a DC-3 (circa WWII) with Golden Isles Aviation! I can’t wait to share photos with you of this magnificent plane, universally recognized as the greatest airplane of its time for comfort and reliability. I’m also planning to check out the a few of the island’s 21 miles of bike paths and take a putting lesson from one of the pros at The King and Prince Golf Course. We live on a golf course, so I’m excited to get some new tips! I’ll also be learning about the shrimping industry as we go on a Shrimp Cruise. They even have a painting class reserved for us. I can’t make any promises on what that will produce, but I’ll do my best!
I have to admit, the activities I’m most looking forward to involve food, and it sounds like there will be one delight after another for this foodie! From ECHO’s classic coastal cuisine to GNATs Landing in the shopping and dining district of Redfern Village to the famous Brogen’s on the Pier to breakfast at Sandcastle Cafe, the dishes they serve up on St. Simon’s Island sound so good, I’m counting the days!
By the way, you can even dine in your room for a nominal charge of $3.00! I might have to try that on my last morning there! Dining on Crab Benedict while overlooking the ocean? I’m in!
I’m looking forward to experiencing all St. Simon’s Island has in store for us, and plan to bring you back a lot of ideas for taking your next vacation at The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort!
