Making a cream cheese bread braid has been a family tradition since I first made it more than twenty years ago! It's actually a pretty funny story.
I was in a women's Bible study at the church we attended in Maryland when our girls were little. Every year, the group would have a big Christmas party.
Each person would be assigned a recipe, and my recipe was this cream cheese braid. As our group was large, three people would be assigned the same recipe.
What was hilarious is that all three recipes would turn out differently. As I hadn't seen what this cream cheese braid should look like, I didn't realize the difference it would make if I proofed it too long.
My braid was twice the size of the other two because I let it rise too long! The funny thing was, my braid was also really fluffy, so it wasn't a bad thing! Now I always let it rise a little longer, and it is always so delicious!
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Maybe this will be a new tradition for you, too!
Cream Cheese Braid
This recipe is so easy and looks like you have slaved over a hot oven all day!
Once thawed, split in half and roll out to 2- 12 by 8 rectangles.
Spread ¾ of the container of cream cheese down each rectangle. (Yes, you will have leftover cream cheese. ½ is not enough and a whole container is too much.)
Fold these strips over one at a time, in a braiding fashion. Once you begin, you will understand.
