Julie Lawson Timmer is going to be an author to watch in the near future as her debut novel hits bookshelves in September. Five Days Left is a thought provoking story of choices, consequences, heartbreak and love at its very core. It spans two parallel stories and characters who intersect in a very interesting way, each with their own decisions to make in only five days.
From Amazon: Destined to be a book club favorite, a heart-wrenching debut about two people who must decide how much they’re willing to sacrifice for love.
“Authentic and powerful story.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred review
I personally connected so closely with the character Mara….from how she expressed herself (especially in anger!) to how she interacted with her friends and husband as well as how she interpreted her daughter’s impressions of her. The author clearly did her research on Huntington’s Disease, which affected Mara and depicted it with such painful accuracy.
My heart broke for her along her journey and I truly wasn’t sure what the outcome of the story would be until I actually read it, although I had decided well in advance what my own choice would be if I were in Mara’s shoes. I didn’t find Scott’s story line as compelling but it certainly was moving and emotional. The choices he faced were written in such a thought provoking way that made me look at relationships and responsibilities in a whole new light.
This has become one of my very favorite books and one that I’ll recommend to anyone looking for a good read! You’ll be thinking about it long after you’ve turned the last page! It’s the perfect addition to my permanent collection because I’m sure I’ll want to read it again!
